THERE USED TO BE……NOW THERE'S…..

I was driving in my car the other day after filling up my car at a gas station and I got to thinking about the days of the full service gas station.   Hard to remember when I would pull up to a gas station, drive over the bell chord and then an attendant would come out.   You'd row down the window (not automatic window) and hand them your credit card or cash and say 'fill it up with unleaded'.   They'd check under your hood and wash your windows and fill up your car.   It was pretty nice.  This got me to thinking about a variety of things that have changed over time.   Below is a look at just a few……...





There used to be….rotary dial phones.
   Now there's….cell phones.







There used to be….row down windows in the car
   Now there's….automatic windows



There used to be….push down locks in the car
   Now there's….automatic locks






There used to be….typewriters
   Now there's….computers & iPads







There used to be….white out and that round eraser with the brush
    Now there's….the delete button



There used to be…..cursive handwriting
    Now there's….extra action for the thumbs with texting



There used to be….folded paper road maps
   Now there's….gps on phones and cars







There used to be….full service gas stations and the gas station driveway bell
   Now there's….self service






There used to be….price tags on every item in the grocery store
   Now there's….bar codes







There used to be….check-out worker at grocery store that entered each individual price
   Now there's….check-out people that scan the item (or you scan it yourself)



There used to be….air conditioning unit in the window or fans
   Now there's….central air conditioning






There used to be….ditto machines  (loved that smell)
   Now there's copy machines






There used to be….carbon paper
   Now there's copy machines



There used to be….pill bottles you could open
   Now there's….hard to open safety tops


There used to be….meals on airplanes
   Now there's….a biscoff cookie (if you're lucky)


There used to be….the ability to get on a plane using someone else's ticket.  
   Now there's….I.D. for each ticket plus personal body checks





There used to be….black & white Television with 3 channels & dial you moved yourself
   Now there's….hi-definition television and remote controls.


There used to be….VHS tape
   Now there's….Net Flix





There used to be….8-track cassette tapes and records
   Now there's….iTunes & Pandora radio


There used to be….a coffee percolator
   Now there's….Keurig & Starbucks






There used to be….camera with a flash bulb
   Now there's….iPhones for cameras







There used to be….manual credit card machines.
    Now there's….the automatic kind.     ( I always like the clicky/slide action of the old ones)
